One Little Black Dress

One little black dress that fits you perfectly is all you need.  Every woman should have that go to dress for an unexpected night out on the town or a planned dinner for two.  Most fashinistas consider one little black dress often called LBD to be "the rule of thumb" to be included in every woman's wardrobe regardless of age or size.  Why might you ask, because it recedes and makes the wearer appear taller and it's a nice backdrop for jewelry and other clothing or accessories of any color.  It can be dressed up or down, and it's just plain sexy.

The little black dress has a history that's as provocative as the look of the woman wearing it. Fashion experts aspire that Coco Chanel brought it's classic style to the  forefront after posting one little black dress in Vogue in 1926.  Vogue referred to it as Chanel's Ford like the Model T.  The years following the 20's it became a staple item for the Hollywood femme fatales and women of a certain reputation.  However, Audrey Hepburn brought the limelight back to the little black dress when she wore one in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's.  Over the years, its look was modified to fit the era.  It remains a classic and elegant look.

One little black dress can make any woman feel as sexy as they look.  Black is flattering and paired with the right accessories can be worn for any occasion.  Don't miss your opportunity to adorn your body with the celebrity inspired looks. One little black dress can wrap your body in pure confidence.  You can find your accessories and pumps, heels, boots, or sexy sandals while your perusing the merchandise.  Send a pic of your favorite style so we can get inspired.

For the Love of Tea

There are so many people that rave about coffee, but tea has its own distinctive place in the hearts of many.  It is the most widely consumed beverage in the world second to water.  True tea is an aromatic beverage that is brewed from the cured leaves of an evergreen shrub known as Camilla Sinensis that is native to Asia. There are many different types of teas, but herbal teas are not true teas. Instead, they are steeped infusions of fruit or herbs. They are known as Tisanes to distinguish them from true teas.  There are many variations of teas. These variations stem from different parts of the world in where they were grown, when they were harvested, and how they were cured.

Tea originated somewhere in southwest China. Chinese legends dates the invention of tea as far back as 2737 BC.  It was mostly used for medicinal purposes.  Later, tea was used as a recreational drink during special occasions only.  The Dutch East India Company played a role in introducing it into the European trade. This lead to the Brits drinking it as a social status preferring the black teas. They added milk and sugar to the mix.  However, by the 18th century the English had to remove the tax from tea ending the smuggling trade. It soon became a popular affordable drink for all economic and social classes.

Tea was so popular that it played a part in quite a few historical events such as the Tea Act of 1773.  This led to the Boston Tea Party which caused parliament to pass the Coercive Act.  The Coercive Act basically enabled punishment for resistance against laws.  All this among other things eventually led to the American War of Independence.  The trade deficit from the British for the demands for Chinese teas eventually led to the opium wars.

Bet you didn't realize all of this happened for the love of tea.  I love tea and have found the history so fascinating I decided to write a mini blog about it that can give you a little more knowledge about teas and where you can purchase samples to try and explore more about its variations.  Here is a book I found authored by four writers who traveled the world as tasters.  It is a heavily illustrated compendium on non-herbal tea that I think you will enjoy. The other book gives insight to all the benefits of herbal tea.  I hope you find the right blend to compliment your afternoon.

My AeroGarden - Growing Herbs all Winter Long

If you don't have one of these, then you are really missing out.  I moved to Tennessee recently and a friend of mine in North Carolina found the AeroGarden on sale and gave it to me as an early Christmas gift.  I was bored and couldn't wait for Christmas so I opened it and gave it a try.  I got the herb kit included with mine.  Here is a picture from November 11th of my results.  Since then, I have had to prune it 3 times already.

As far as preserving the herbs, I have just been cutting the leaves and stacking them.  I then roll them up and thinly slice them.  I have tiny snack sealable bags that I label and store them in.  After that, I freeze them until needed.  I have seen where people freeze them in olive oil.  You can search the net for different techniques on storing them, but be careful with freezing them in oil because botulism can form if the moisture is not out of the plant material.

This one illustrated about is the Deluxe Model.  It's a little pricey but well worth harvest that you will get back again and again.  It is called Miracle-Gro AeroGarden Bounty with Gourmet Herb Seed Pod Kit

Yes it an amazing product to have.  I am just learning about mine.  Facebook has a page that you can learn all about this very useful item.  Since I want to grow more than just the pod space available I want to transplant them into soil and keep repeating the process.  And yes you can grow your own seeds.  You can also buy packs of like products packaged together.

Just wanted to give you a quick update on my experience with my AeroGarden.  The Thai Basil is growing like crazy.  I have cut it back 4 times already.  Genovese Basil is behind it and I have had to prune it back 2 times.  Same goes for the Cilantro.  I haven't had success with the Chives, Curly Parsley, or dill yet, but they take longer.  You are suppose to keep harvesting the growing herbs until the others sprout and reach the light.  Even though I am so tempted, I have made myself wait.  I did discover yesterday that the water was actually lower than it looked on the indicator.  Now I put my finger inside the port to add water and make sure it is where it suppose to be.  This may explain the delay in the sprouting of the 3 other plants.  I have to say that I am very impressed and have harvested a lot more herbs that I anticipated.  I can't wait to start vegetables in here because this year is all about canning.  Here is a picture of where I am at just weeks after writing this article.

I would love to hear about your experiences with the AeroGarden.  I have a green thumb but many do not.  This is a great way to have fresh herbs, vegetable, fruits, and flowers all year long.  This would be ideal for teaching your child about horticulture and cooking at the same time.  In the end, you will save more money than you ever spent on this product.  It is also great for city dwellers to enjoy the fresh vegetable that we do in the south without the real estate.  Here are some more model you might like.

Here are just a few of the many seed packs you can get or just grow your own.  This examples include teas and flower pods.  Your imagination is the only things that can limit you when it comes to growing your own plants.  So start a new hobby this winter that will slim you down and make you healthier in the next year.

Pioneer Woman's Cookware in Turquoise

Who doesn't love the Pioneer Woman's cooking show.  By now you have seen her cookware collection at local retailer.  I went to the store to purchase a piece that I seen about a month ago and was disappointed because it was no longer on the shelf.  I love the Turquoise Collection and I am going to put the product links here so you can find that piece that you may be missing.  I mix some of the teal items to complete my set.  I just love her products and I know you will too.  At the end of this post I will post some of her odds and ends pieces that you will just love collecting because her collections can be mixed and matched and still look amazing.

Mix and Match pieces to complete your Set

These are just some of the products in the blue family of her many selections and colors of cookware.  I love making Sunday dinners for family and guest and would be proud to cook and serve my family with these beautiful dishes.  I could not find blue serving bowls, so if you know where I can locate some leave me a note.  The sets that I found in The Pioneer Woman line were all mixed colors.
